The Growing Minds Check-In is an online check-in for parents/caregivers and young people to support social and emotional wellbeing. The Check-In provides a summary page of how children and young people compare to others of a similar age, along with recommendations for free or low-cost online programs and resources. There are three versions in various stages of development: for parents/caregivers of children (0-17 years), young people (12-17 years), and caregivers of Aboriginal children (0-12 years).

The Check-In aims to help build skills to recognise when children and young people need more support to improve their social-emotional wellbeing, to build awareness of accessible support, and to encourage help-seeking when needed. The development of the Check-In has involved extensive input from parents/caregivers, young people, and the practitioners that seek to support them.

The first version of the Check-In (for parents and caregivers) is currently being tested to make sure it is acceptable and effective, with the aim of a national public rollout taking place later. You can access the Check-In here.

We are also conducting surveys and focus groups with young people to better understand what kind of Check-In tool would be most helpful for them. Following this, the Check-In for young people will be developed, tested and rolled out nationally.  

The Check-In for caregivers of Aboriginal children is also in development and is overseen by a separate Aboriginal Reference Group who are engaged in every phase of co-development and co-design with caregivers of Aboriginal children, as well as health care service providers working with caregivers of Aboriginal children (and the children themselves) in the space of social and emotional wellbeing.
